Celebrating National Donut Day With Bakell
Celebrate National Donut Day with sparkling confectionary inspirations and fun historical donut facts!
From all of us at Bakell we wish you a shimmering National Donut Day! Whether you prefer exotic and exquisitely decorated pastries or a good old fashioned plain glazed donut, we hope you will celebrate National Donut Day with friends and family. We are the #1 edible glitter manufacturer in the world and in order to show you the amazing textures and colors that you can create with our Luster Dust and Tinker Dust, we used plain glazed donuts and went to work! But before that here are a few fun donut facts...
- National Donut Day began in 1938 by The Salvation Army in Chicago as a fundraiser and since then has been on the first Friday of June.
- Early Dutch immigrants are credited with bringing donuts to America. At the time they were called oilycakes.
- The first automated donut machine was made in 1920 and it made 80 dozen per hour.
- There are several different urban legends about how the donut hole came about. One of our favorites is that a sailor wanted to eat a donut and steer the ship at the same time so he placed the donut over one of the steering handles!
- Americans consume upwards of 10 billion donuts per year!
Now that we have learned some fun donut facts, let's take a look at the 4 donuts we used Tinker Dust on and how you can achieve these looks. The Pollipop Purple and Turquoise Tinker dust were applied with a makeup brush to dried glaze. You can see how both the color and the glitter create a consistent metallic sheen. The Deep Pink Tinker Dust was sprinkled on so you can still see the individual glitter and it has a less smooth texture. The Burgundy Red Tinker Dust was sprinkled on freshly wet glaze and then spread around with the bottom of a spoon. You can still see the sparkle of the glitter but the glaze now appears to be completely red.
Let's move on to the Luster Dust donuts. The colors used were Bronze, Rose Gold, Super Gold, and Classic Blue. They were applied with a small paintbrush to a dry glaze. You can see that Luster Dust creates a magnificent metallic matte finish for a more understated look.
And last but certainly not least we have our Krazy Sprinkles mixes! These were sprinkled on with slightly damp glaze so they would stick. We used the Rainbow Mini Sprinkle Beads, Classic Rainbow Jimmies Mix, and Pastel Donut Sprinkles Mix. We also used our mini donut silicone mold, added in white chocolate, and then painted on Turquoise Lust Dust.
We hope you enjoyed seeing how our Tinker Dust, Luster Dust, and Krazy Sprinkles can be utilized to exquisitely design even simple plain glazed donuts. Thank you for stopping by and as always we encourage you to experiment with your confectionery designs!
