Fondant Toppers for Cake Decoration & more!

You guys.. I cannot tell you how excited we are to launch this product finally! You have been asking and asking, and we went live with it today! I know many of you use fondant on a daily basis, and we have been dying to get you  a beautiful, moldable, vibrant line of fondant that you can LOVE!

The collection has a wide range of colors that are perfect for all occasions, holidays, and seasons. They are easily mixed together to create custom colors that meet your specific needs. Based on customer feedback, you dont even need cornstarch or powdered sugar to easily roll it out to smooth for cutting and molding into your favorite cake toppers, cupcake decorations, flowers etc!

Tasteful Vanilla Flavored Fondant

If you are new to using fondant, I highly suggest giving it a try. It is completely edible, basically a sugar paste, which is almost like working with a sugar based edible clay for baked goods. You can create some of the cutest figurines with it, and then allow it to dry and keep them for later use.

The steps for using fondant vary depending on what you're looking to do with it. If you want to cover a whole cake, you'll want to measure out how big your cake is and the area you'll need to cover.

  • Crumb coat your cake and put it in the refrigerator (if your icing is too soft the fondant will just slide off)

  • Roll out your fondant - if you need to prevent sticking to your surface, I like using a very light dusting of powdered sugar, but it's not always necessary.

  • Take cake out of fridge

  • Loosely roll fondant over your rolling pin

  • Carefully pick up your rolled out fondant and unroll it over the cake

  • Smooth the fondant over the cake. Start at the top first, then smooth down the sides, using your fingers. Make sure that there are no folds, wrinkles, or air bubbles.Trim off any excess fondant. Use a fondant cutter to trim excess fondant off. Try to cut as close to the bottom of the cake as possible.

  • Finish smoothing the fondant. You can give your cake a smooth, professional finish by "ironing" the surface of the fondant with a fondant smoothing tool.

  • Finish off by decorating the cake. You can leave the cake as it is, or you can add decorations to it using buttercream frosting. The possibilities are endless!

One of my favorite ways to use fondant is to make cake toppers. It really just takes practice, however there are lots of tutorials you can find online in places like Youtube. You can virtually make anything when molding fondant figures, which is what makes it so awesome to work with. Pumpkins, dogs, giraffes, cute little piggies, even people! You can create flat pieces as well like clothing, names/words, flowers, wedding decor, baby shower decor etc.

If you want to make flat cupcake toppers, they are super easy!

  • Knead the fondant until it is pliable. Dust a cutting board and a rolling pin with powdered sugar or a small amount of corn starch. Roll the fondant out to about 1/16 of an inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes.

  • Use a round cookie cutter that is similar in size to the top of your cupcakes to cut out fondant buttons. Brush a light coating of water on the backside of your cut-outs and press them onto the fondant buttons.

  • Frost the top of your cupcakes and press one of the cupcake toppers onto the frosting.

  • If you are not going to serve your cupcakes the same day, it is best to store just the fondant cupcake toppers in an airtight container until the day you need them. Then place them on the cupcakes up to several hours before serving.

  • You can use all sorts of cutters, letters, whatever you want, and layer the pieces together on top of the cupcakes.
